The role of a Certified Public Accountantis very diverse, but here are a number of functions often performed by CPAs for their clients, both large corporations and small businesses:

Tax returns and accounting services for small businesses.
Independent attestation & auditing services for things such as company accounts and financial statements of all kinds.
Accounting and reporting for governmental agencies.
Accounting and reporting for non-governmental and not-for-profit organizations.
Accounting and reporting for public and private companies.
